About the role
The Electrical Engineering Manager leads all electrical engineering and maintenance activities across the Takeda Los Angeles Manufacturing site and Van Nuys Warehousing facilities. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of electrical power systems supporting 24/7 pharmaceutical manufacturing, laboratories, warehouses, and critical utilities.
This position provides technical and people leadership to a team of electricians and electrical specialists, while driving electrical system reliability, safety, and compliance with cGMP, FDA, NFPA, NEC, and local codes. The role also leads capital projects, lifecycle asset management, and vendor oversight for all electrical infrastructure.
How you will contribute
Leadership & Operations
- Lead site-wide electrical engineering and maintenance supporting 24/7 operations
- Manage and develop electricians and technical staff, ensuring coverage, training, and on-call readiness
- Provide rapid technical support during electrical events, outages, or reliability risks
Electrical Systems & Reliability
- Ensure reliable operation of electrical infrastructure, including medium/low-voltage distribution, substations, switchgear, UPS, emergency generators, and grounding systems
- Establish and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to optimize asset lifecycle performance
- Drive continuous improvement in system reliability and uptime
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with FDA, cGMP, NEC, NFPA (70/70E), IBC, and local codes
- Own electrical safety programs, including arc flash, lockout/tagout, and safe work practices
- Support audits and inspections; ensure timely closure of CAPAs
Capital Projects & Vendor Management
- Lead electrical scope for capital projects (design review, contractor oversight, FAT/SAT, commissioning, validation)
- Manage contractors and service providers, ensuring performance, safety, cost, and compliance
- Develop and manage capital and expense budgets related to electrical systems and projects
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Automation, Facilities, and EHS to support site objectives
- Contribute to site reliability, safety, and compliance initiatives
What you bring to Takeda
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred; Mechanical/Chemical considered); advanced degree a plus
- 6+ years of experience in electrical engineering or maintenance, with 1+ year in a leadership role
- Strong expertise in electrical power systems within pharmaceutical, industrial, or mission-critical environments
- Deep knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and electrical safety standards
- Proven experience leading skilled trades and technical teams in a 24/7 operation
- Experience leading electrical capital projects end-to-end
- Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills in time-sensitive situations
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Preferred
- 7+ years in pharmaceutical, biotech, or mission-critical facilities
- Experience in FDA-regulated, cGMP environments
- Hands-on experience with power distribution, UPS, emergency power, and electrical safety programs
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- NICET (Fire Alarm) or PMP certification

Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work across office and manufacturing environments
- Frequent presence in production, utility, and facility areas
- Ability to access electrical rooms, mezzanines, and confined spaces
- Required use of PPE and adherence to gowning protocols in controlled environments
- May work in cleanroom, cold, or wet environments
Other / Travel Requirements:
- Ability to respond to electrical or site emergencies outside normal business hours
- Flexibility to support off-shift work, including weekends as needed
- Limited travel for training, vendor visits, or business needs
