Coalesenz Inc. is an early-stage in vitro diagnostics company developing a novel optical sensing platform that rapidly measures blood coagulation status using only a small blood sample. Our technology addresses a critical unmet clinical need in helping clinicians identify and manage patients at elevated risk of life-threatening bleeding.

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Electrical/ Mechanical Engineer to join our product development team. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer who enjoys building and testing hardware, solving practical engineering problems, and working across both mechanical and electrical systems in a fast-paced startup environment. You will work closely with the engineering team, our academic and clinical collaborators, and vendor partners to help prototype, test, and refine next-generation medical diagnostic devices.

Responsibilities

  • Design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of device prototypes and subsystems
  • Develop mechanical components, fixtures, enclosures, and assemblies using CAD and rapid prototyping tools
  • Build and troubleshoot electronic circuits, breadboards, PCB assemblies, and embedded systems
  • Support PCB layout, schematic review, component selection, and system integration activities
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical systems in a laboratory environment
  • Perform experimental testing, data collection, analysis, and iterative design optimization
  • Assist with development and execution of verification and validation test protocols
  • Work with sensors, optical systems, low-power electronics, and embedded hardware
  • Collaborate closely with software, firmware, and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Support design documentation, risk analysis (FMEA), and product development activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 1–3 years of relevant industry, internship, or hands-on engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical design, fabrication, and prototyping
  • Experience building and troubleshooting electronic circuits and embedded hardware
  • Familiarity with PCB layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, and functional testing
  • Ability to troubleshoot electromechanical systems in a lab setting
  • Experience performing experimental testing, data analysis, and iterative design optimization
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB is required
  • Strong practical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a multidisciplinary startup environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with medical devices, biosensors, optical systems, or diagnostic instrumentation
  • Familiarity with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and firmware development
  • Experience with low-power electronics and power management systems
  • Internship, co-op, or startup experience

At Coalesenz, you’ll have the opportunity to work on impactful technology with real potential to improve patient outcomes and save lives while gaining broad hands-on experience across product development and engineering disciplines.

Coalesenz offers a competitive benefits package and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
