POSITION SUMMARY
The Electrical Procurement Engineer supports McCarthy's Renewable Energy Business Unit by leading the sourcing, evaluation, and qualification of suppliers and products for DC collection systems (including combiner boxes, load break disconnects, wire harnesses, and trunk bus), DC and medium voltage cable, switchgear, auxiliary transformers for BESS, and other solar electrical balance of systems (eBOS) scopes. This role combines market research, technology benchmarking, and strategic vendor relationships to improve project competitiveness, manage risk, and support successful project pursuits from preliminary design and bidding through preconstruction and project handoff. The Electrical Procurement Engineer collaborates closely with internal partners and external suppliers to ensure high-quality, cost-effective solutions that align with McCarthy's standards, contract requirements, and core values.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General Procurement responsibilities (not project specific)
- Perform market research and establish and maintain relationships within the industry to help McCarthy stay informed and ahead of changes in the market as it relates to DC Collection systems (Combiner Boxes, Load Break Disconnects, Wire Harnesses, Trunk Bus), DC Cable, Medium Voltage Cable, Switchgear and Auxiliary Transformers for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and other Solar Electrical Balance of Systems (eBOS) scopes.
- Explore new technologies, lead the evaluation, and benchmarking of new products to determine the economic value and potential impacts if implemented.
- Support the supplier and product qualification process.
- Benchmark vendors to identify opportunities to improve competitive pricing of each project scope.
- Attend industry events and represent McCarthy to the industry in a professional capacity.
- Build and maintain key relationships with suppliers and collaborate on the development or implementation of new technologies.
- Build and maintain key relationships with all McCarthy partners and collaborate to resolve quality issues.
- Communicate with manager to identify opportunities for personal growth and improvement by setting SMART goals and working diligently to achieve them.
- Conduct project site visits and vendor inspections where applicable.

Project Pursuits - Preliminary design and bidding phase of the project
- Provide support for business development efforts by participating in client discussions as needed and answering questions about different suppliers/ products.
- Review all project specific contract documents to identify scope requirements and specifications.
- Create the Request for Proposals (RFP) based on the project requirements and solicit proposals to the respective suppliers.
- Perform evaluations of each proposal to develop an understanding of the products and services included, as well as the pricing, bid exclusions and exceptions to the project requirements and RFP terms for review with leadership.
- Communicate and collaborate with suppliers to vet out proposals as well as any potential options or features that may add value to the customer and/or reduce McCarthy's risk.
- Review and levelize bids to identify and mitigate risk in compliance with contract documents. Compile estimate package for all scopes and create recommendations, summarizing risks and opportunities.
- Support the negotiation efforts and understand the terms of the proposal to ensure alignment with McCarthy's expectations, the owner's requirements, and the project specific design criteria.
- Recognize how Cashflow and Cancellation schedules are developed.
Preconstruction - Post award
- Upon project award, participate and contribute to the establishment of the project procurement strategy.
- Coordinate the procurement efforts and negotiate the scope of work for key equipment with support of team. Ensure compliance with any high-level vendor spend allocation strategies.
- Prepare contractual exhibits for leadership review of the scope of work for purchase orders. Solicit input from all stakeholders on contract details and lead the approval and execution process.
- Understand the scope specific budget and impact to the project.
- Support the effective transition to the specific project team that will be on-site, building each project.
- Conduct and lead internal handoff meetings and overseeing effective supplier kickoff meetings to introduce both project teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires BS degree in one of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Civil Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or equivalent industry experience.
