Job Description

ABOUT NEXTSTEP

NextStep connects top consulting talent with high-potential opportunities through smart, AI-powered matching. We partner with ambitious companies across sectors to place experienced professionals in roles where they can have a real impact. On behalf of a client in our partner network, we are looking for an ESG Analyst to join their team.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is an impact-focused investment firm based in London, managing capital across listed equities, private markets, and infrastructure on behalf of institutional and charitable clients. ESG is not a bolt-on at this firm; it is central to their investment philosophy, embedded in their process from origination through to exit, and increasingly important to how they engage with regulators, clients, and portfolio companies. The ESG team is growing to meet that demand, and this is a newly created role.

THE ROLE

As an ESG Analyst, you will support the integration of ESG analysis into the firm's investment process and contribute to the reporting, engagement, and stewardship activities that define how the firm holds itself and its portfolio to account. You will work across asset classes, engage with portfolio companies, and help build the data and analytical infrastructure that underpins the firm's ESG capability. This is a role for someone who combines analytical rigour with genuine conviction about why this work matters.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Support the integration of ESG factors into investment analysis across listed equities, private markets, and infrastructure, working alongside portfolio managers and deal teams.
  • Conduct ESG research and due diligence on existing and potential investments, identifying material risks and opportunities across environmental, social, and governance dimensions.
  • Contribute to the firm's ESG reporting processes, including annual impact and sustainability reports, client disclosures, and regulatory submissions aligned to SFDR, TCFD, and UK SDR requirements.
  • Engage directly with portfolio companies on ESG improvement priorities, data requests, and reporting alignment.
  • Maintain and develop the firm's ESG data infrastructure, including scoring models, data vendor relationships, and internal tracking tools.
  • Monitor developments in ESG regulation, reporting standards, and market practice, translating them into practical guidance for investment teams.
  • Support the Head of ESG in preparing materials for client meetings, investment committee sessions, and external speaking engagements.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 2-4 years of experience in ESG research, responsible investment, management consulting, or a related analytical role.
  • Working knowledge of key ESG frameworks and regulatory requirements, including SFDR, TCFD, GRI, and UK SDR.
  • Strong analytical skills; comfortable working with large data sets, building models, and producing clear, evidence-based outputs.
  • Genuine intellectual interest in sustainable finance and a developing point of view on how ESG factors affect investment outcomes.
  • Clear and precise written communication skills, able to produce research notes, client materials, and internal reports to a high standard.
  • Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple analytical workstreams simultaneously.
  • Prior experience in an investment management or financial services environment is a meaningful advantage.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of £55,000 - £75,000, determined based on experience and scope.
  • Annual bonus reflective of individual and team contribution.
  • Additional benefits, including private health cover, pension, and leave entitlement, are detailed as part of the full offer package.
