PREAMBLE
The Data Center Facilities Engineer is member of 24x7 Data Center Facilities Management team and reports to Facilities Manager. He / she will lead and manage facilities technicians to operate and maintain mission critical facilities of data centres on 24x7 basis to achieve service level requirements and specifications.
ROLE SUMMARY
The individual plays an important role in maintaining critical facilities infrastructure to delivering best in class service to our customers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the 24x7 team to operate, monitor, and maintain all data centre critical infrastructure systems, including electrical (MV/LV, UPS, generators), mechanical (chillers, CRAH/CRAC, cooling systems), BMS, fire protection, and life safety systems, ensuring high availability and compliance with SLA requirements.
- Ensure team and vendors to perform daily inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of facilities systems in accordance with approved procedures and safety standards.
- Respond promptly to facility alarms, incidents, and emergencies, perform initial fault diagnosis, execute recovery actions, and coordinate escalation to internal teams, communicate with customers or external vendors as required. As required, to support 24x7 data center operations.
- Support and execute planned maintenance activities, repairs, system upgrades, and equipment replacements while minimizing operational risk and avoiding service impact.
- Monitor facility performance metrics such as power usage effectiveness (PUE), capacity utilization, and system health, and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, resilience, and energy efficiency.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including operating procedures, maintenance records, incident reports, method statements, and risk assessments.
- Coordinate and supervise vendors and contractors performing maintenance, testing, or installation works, ensuring compliance with site rules, safety regulations, and contractual requirements. Evaluate vendor performance and report to manager.
- Comply with and actively promote EHS policies, conducting risk assessments, enforcing safe work practices, and participating in safety audits and drills.
- Support capacity planning activities by tracking power, cooling, and space availability and providing technical input for future expansion or deployment.
- Participate in change management, MOP/SOP/EOP reviews, and site audits, including compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and industry best practices. And participate in ISO certifications and audits.
- Will be acting as Project engineer for addition & alternation works of new and existing customers.
- Lead and train technicians to follow and comply with standard operating procedures, escalation procedures, incident & change procedures.
- Assist reporting manager in administration of the facilities team.
QUALIFICATION
- Degree / Higher Diploma graduates in Building Services/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 3 years or above experience in operation and maintenance of 24x7 mission critical facilities
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Good team player, strong project management, communication, presentation and problem-solving skills.
- Good troubleshooting skill in equipment/system failures and alarms, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to restore full performance.
- Knowledge and experience in ISO certification and audits.
- Able to work under pressure and out-of-office hours if necessary.
- Good verbal and written communication in English and Chinese.
- Registered Electrical Worker (REW) an advantage.
- Knowledge in BMS, DCIM or Remedy systems an advantage.
- Relevant experience in mission critical environment / data center / telecommunications industry preferable
