Most software fails at deployment. Not because the code is bad — because nobody closes the gap between what was built and how operators actually work. That's what this role is.
Ebb & Flow builds operational software for hospitality, travel, and logistics businesses. As our Forward-Deployed Engineer, you'll be the person who takes what we've built and makes it work - in real kitchens, real hotel operations, real logistics environments. You'll embed directly with clients, understand how they run, and either deploy or build the systems that fit.
This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role. You won't be handed clean specs. You'll walk into messy environments and figure out what matters.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Deploy our systems end-to-end across restaurant groups, hotel operations, and logistics environments — setup, integration, and adoption. Own it until it works.
- Build and customise on the fly. Develop tooling and applications on top of our stack (FastAPI, Next.js, Postgres, AI agents) to fit each client's workflows. You adapt the system to the operation, not the other way around.
- Embed with operators. Work directly with founders, GMs, ops leads, and logistics teams. Map real workflows — procurement, inventory, scheduling, delivery — and turn ambiguity into working systems.
- Close the loop. Feed field insights back into the core platform. Spot patterns across deployments, push reusable abstractions, and contribute to roadmap direction from first principles.
- Travel and deploy on-site. Regular travel to Sydney and Melbourne is part of this role, with other regional markets as needed.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Strong engineer: Comfortable across the stack. Python and/or TypeScript preferred. Backend, frontend, infra. You can move across all of it.
- High agency: You figure things out without waiting for a brief. You're comfortable with ambiguity and you don't need things to be clean before you start.
- Field-oriented: You like being in the room with operators, not just behind a screen. You think in systems, not features, and you measure success by operational impact.
- Exposure to hospitality, travel, logistics, or operations-heavy environments is genuinely useful here, not just a nice-to-have.
- Familiarity with AI/LLM-based systems and agent workflows, and experience integrating with third-party systems (POS, CRM, ERP) would set you up well.
