About the role

Original posting from SpaceX via Greenhouse

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

GLOBAL SUPPLY MANAGER, TRANSMISSION AND SUBSTATION (STARLINK)

We are seeking a world-class Global Supply Manager to own end-to-end transmission and substation electric equipment procurement strategy, supplier management, and delivery for SpaceX's behind-the-meter power plant infrastructure. In this role, you will partner deeply with power plant engineers and energy teams to define high-voltage equipment strategies, secure long-lead items (transformers, GIS, DTCB, bushings, transducers, utility poles, and related components), manage relationships with OEMs and suppliers, and ensure reliable, cost-effective delivery at the extreme scale and velocity SpaceX demands for its power plants. You will negotiate transformative contracts, deploy predictive tools for demand and risk management (especially long-lead times), drive supplier innovation, and turn transmission/substation procurement into a strategic competitive advantage that enables SpaceX's unprecedented AI infrastructure build speed. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in high-voltage power equipment markets, substation/transmission procurement, and energy infrastructure in high-growth environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Partner deeply with responsible engineers, power plant developers, and energy teams to co-define long-term transmission and substation equipment strategy, multi-year procurement roadmaps (including new substation builds, transmission interconnections, and capacity expansions), and approved supplier lists for OEMs of transformers, GIS, DTCB, bushings, transducers, utility poles, and related high-voltage components

Own global sourcing and contracting end-to-end for transmission and substation electric equipment to achieve on-time delivery of long-lead items while supporting SpaceX's record-breaking power plant & datacenter build cadence

Negotiate transformative, long-term commercial agreements and master supply agreements with OEMs, EPC contractors, and suppliers; including pricing structures, volume commitments, flexibility clauses, dedicated manufacturing slots, lead-time reductions, and priority allocation during industry-wide shortages

Lead equipment procurement project execution from sourcing through factory acceptance testing and site delivery, working closely with EPC contractors, regulators, and operators to accelerate timelines for substation and transmission infrastructure, while maintaining the highest safety, quality, and environmental standards

Drive continuous cost leadership through should-cost modeling, value engineering of substation designs, structured pricing agreements, and portfolio optimization while ensuring ultra-high reliability and resilience for SpaceX training clusters

Build and maintain strategic partnerships with high-voltage equipment OEMs, suppliers, and EPC firms through executive business reviews, joint development projects, and co-innovation on custom solutions, such as faster-manufactured transformers, modular GIS designs, advanced bushings/transducers, and rapid-deployment substation packages

Stay at the forefront of high-voltage equipment markets, transmission/substation technologies, regulatory landscapes (FERC, NERC, PHMSA equivalents, etc.), and behind-the-meter power solutions, then translate these insights into actionable strategies that keep SpaceX's power infrastructure at the bleeding edge of reliability, efficiency, and scalability

Act as a force multiplier across the organization by mentoring cross-functional teams on high-voltage procurement best practices and fostering a culture of ownership, speed, technical depth, regulatory foresight, and relentless optimization

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; or 10+ years of experience working in one or more of the following:

Business

Energy

Supply Chain

Engineering

5+ years of experience in high-voltage equipment procurement, transmission/substation sourcing, energy infrastructure supply chain, utilities, and/or power generation

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Deep technical and commercial understanding of transmission and substation equipment (transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, DTCB, bushings, transducers, utility poles, and associated components), long-lead item management, and behind-the-meter power plant infrastructure

Proven track record negotiating and managing procurement of long-lead high-voltage equipment (transformers, GIS, circuit breakers, bushings, poles, transducers, etc.) and related infrastructure agreements

Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments with aggressive scaling of energy infrastructure

Previous experience at utilities, EPC firms, high-voltage OEMs (e.g., Siemens, ABB, GE), hyperscalers with onsite generation, or power plant developers supporting large-scale infrastructure

Demonstrated success delivering results in ambiguous, high-velocity environments with extremely aggressive timelines, massive scale, complex regulatory landscapes, and long-lead equipment challenges

Strong negotiation, analytical, risk management, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Familiarity with equipment specification development, factory acceptance testing, regulatory compliance, and precedent agreements for new substation/transmission capacity

Passion for SpaceX's mission and excitement about enabling the fastest AI infrastructure builds on Earth

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed to support supplier factories, OEM facilities, regulatory meetings, and critical project execution at SpaceX power plant sites

Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with rapidly evolving priorities and world-class execution speed

This position is based in Austin, TX and requires being onsite
