Job Description

ABOUT NEXTSTEP

NextStep connects top consulting talent with high-potential opportunities through smart, AI-powered matching. We partner with ambitious companies across sectors to place experienced professionals in roles where they can have a real impact. On behalf of a client in our partner network, we are currently looking for a Head of Commercial to join their team.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a fast-growing B2B marketplace business headquartered in London, connecting enterprise buyers with specialist service providers across the UK and Europe. Backed by a leading growth equity fund, they have reached £20m ARR and are now building the commercial infrastructure to scale to £100m. The founding team comes from Bain, Deliveroo, and Stripe, and the business is entering its most ambitious phase of growth to date.

THE ROLE

As Head of Commercial, you will own the end-to-end revenue function — spanning enterprise sales, account management, and commercial partnerships. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will set strategy, build the team, and personally lead the largest deals. This is a rare opportunity to define the commercial playbook of a category-defining business at a pivotal moment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Define and execute the commercial strategy, including segmentation, go-to-market approach, and revenue targets across enterprise and mid-market channels.
  • Lead and grow a commercial team of account executives, business development managers, and partnerships leads.
  • Own the full sales cycle for strategic accounts — from first meeting through to close and expansion.
  • Build scalable commercial processes, including CRM discipline, pipeline management, and forecasting frameworks.
  • Partner with Marketing, Product, and Operations to ensure commercial feedback shapes the product roadmap and customer experience.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 8–12 years of experience in commercial, sales, or business development roles, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling revenue teams in a high-growth B2B environment.
  • Strong enterprise sales instincts — able to navigate complex buying processes, multiple stakeholders, and long deal cycles.
  • Strategic thinker who can also roll up their sleeves and close deals personally when needed.
  • Experience in marketplace, SaaS, or platform businesses is a strong advantage.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of £120,000 – £150,000, depending on experience.
  • Uncapped performance bonus tied to revenue targets.
  • Meaningful equity stake in a high-growth business.
  • Private health cover, enhanced pension, and flexible hybrid working from London.
