Summary of Duties:
Instill the RK safety culture into all employees. Develop and carry out a continuing safety program. Train, coach and mentor all employees in safety.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide adequate supervision to assure that our employees are aware of, and comply with, applicable safety rules, regulations and work practices and procedures.
- Take necessary steps to promote safety and health in fixed facilities.
- Eliminate safety and health hazards, coordinate with shop leadership on corrective actions.
- Conduct continual safety inspections on all assigned facilities. Review trends and conduct data analysis to determine necessary training, safety stand downs or similar actions.
- Initiate action to eliminate hazards or potential hazards while involving shop personnel in the corrections.
- Recommend installations of safety guards, safe working practices and use of personal safety equipment utilizing the hierarchy of controls and following an OSHA VPP best practices mindset.
- Perform substance abuse testing, as required per company policy.
- Present Health & Safety 4-hour presentation at new hire orientation. Conduct shop specific orientation and additional shop specific training as needed such as Lock Out Tag Out, Industrial Hygiene, and machine guarding.
- Investigates all incidents and maintains complete incident statistics. Communicates those statistics to shop leadership to develop action plans.
- Responsible for training employees, maintaining training records and re-training as required. Reviewing and revising the shop specific training matrix, as required.
- Ensure that there is accurate record keeping with regulatory agencies.
- Ability to confront people who are not working safely and train them in safe work practices.
- Develop new safety standards and programs in conjunction with shop leadership.
- Incident and claims management, clinic visits and develop recovery plans, as required.
- Investigation of fraud claims.
- Assist in vetting contractors and vendors for compliance on projects.
- Assist in data mining for the purpose of annual performance reviews.
- Assist shop leadership in annual review and updates to shop specific manuals, plans, and programs.
- Further personal knowledge, certifications, and training to better support manufacturing facilities and the HSE Department.
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.
- Other duties as assigned.
Accountability:
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- All employees are accountable for safety and health and are empowered to stop work if an unsafe condition is present.
- Accountable to the HSE Department, but directly reports to the Director of Manufacturing Operations and Vice President of Supply Chain for daily activities.
- RK employees and subcontractors are required to implement and maintain all safety and health systems practices including the training requirements of RK Orientation, CPR/First Aid/AED/Bloodborne Pathogens, and OSHA 30.
Primary Career Level:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge and experience may be considered in place of degree.
- 5+ years' experience in Safety and Health roles in a manufacturing environment.
- Extensive knowledge of 40 CFR Chapter I Subchapter C - Air Programs Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.
- Strong verbal presentation and facilitation skills.
- Understanding and implementation of ISO45001 and ISO9001.
- Understanding of Worker's Compensation and Return to Work process.
- OSHA Voluntary Protection Program experience preferred.
- Currently hold or willingness to obtain additional education, safety certifications, and designations required. Designations include but not limited to:
- BCSP - ASP, OHST preferred
- NSC Advanced Safety Certificate
- OSHA 30 Hour
- Train the trainer designations related to Safety and Health
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and other computer software.
Minimum Physical Requirements:
- Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy and hazardous areas.
- Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces and/or other adverse locations.
- Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch.
- Must have working knowledge of all trade materials, equipment, and tools.
- Ability to lift, move, and/or carry 50 lbs.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment.
- Occasionally may need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
