Overview
We are seeking a senior-level I&C engineering expert to support a major nuclear refurbishment program. This role focuses on digital turbine and generator control systems within a CANDU environment, providing technical leadership across design, validation, and implementation phases.
Reporting to the Superintendent, I&C Computer/Software Engineering, you will play a key role in supporting refurbishment and restart milestones in a complex nuclear setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expertise in I&C engineering and digital control systems for turbine and generator operations.
- Review design documentation including specifications, software, equipment requirements, and test reports.
- Evaluate field-initiated changes from EPC contractors.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, nuclear safety standards, and industry codes.
- Perform field inspections to verify installation against approved designs.
- Identify and document discrepancies; support corrective actions.
- Support system design, modification, and performance analysis.
- Participate in technical interface meetings with stakeholders and contractors.
- Lead or contribute to engineering studies and technical problem-solving.
- Prepare engineering documentation including specifications, reports, and correspondence.
- Develop as-built and as-commissioned drawings.
- Mentor junior engineers and support multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned initiatives.
- Collaborate with safety, engineering, regulatory, and construction teams.
- Support project schedules and refurbishment timelines
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PEO) or equivalent (or eligibility).
- 10+ years in digital control systems within power generation.
- 5+ years supporting CANDU nuclear projects.
Strong expertise in:
- Turbine and generator control systems
- Thermal cycle control
- Nuclear digital control architectures
Knowledge of standards including:
- CSA N290.7, N290.14
- IEC 61508, 61511, 61513, 61882
- EN 61000, IEEE 1012
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CANDU refurbishment programs.
- Familiarity with quality standards: CSA N286, N299, CNCAN NMC, ISO 9001.
- Experience with GE Mark VI or Alstom ALSPA systems.
- Exposure to advanced digital safety technologies.
- Project management experience.
- Ability to perform in high-pressure outage environments.
- Romanian language (asset, not required)
