Position Overview We are seeking a highly experienced IBM Systems Engineer with deep expertise in IBM AS/400, iSeries, and Power i systems. This role is responsible for leading the design, implementation, upgrade, and migration of IBM Power i environments for our clients, as well as occasional remote systems administration responsibilities.

This role is ideal for a high-ownership, high-accountability engineer who thrives in client-facing environments, takes full responsibility for outcomes, and executes with precision and urgency. You will lead projects from discovery through delivery — owning scope, execution, communication, and results.

DFW-based candidates are preferred; however, remote candidates will be considered if willing to travel to DFW and other Texas client locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities IBM i Engineering & Implementation Install, configure, and deploy IBM i (AS/400, iSeries, Power i) systems

Lead system upgrades, migrations, and hardware refresh initiatives

Design and configure LPAR environments and optimize resource allocation

Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions using hardware or software replication (PowerHA and Mimix skills, a plus)

Execute OS upgrades, firmware updates, and PTF management

Configure storage, virtualization (PowerVM), and system performance tuning

Lead end-to-end IBM i migration projects (hardware, OS, HA/DR, storage)

Conduct system assessments and develop remediation and modernization plans

Identify risks early and proactively mitigate potential disruptions

Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with minimal client impact

Systems Administration Perform advanced IBM i systems administration

Manage security configuration, user profiles, auditing, and compliance controls

Monitor system performance and capacity planning

Design and validate backup and recovery strategies

Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, OS, and infrastructure issues

Client Engagement & Project Ownership Develop clear, detailed Statements of Work (SOWs) for implementations, upgrades, and migrations

Lead technical discovery sessions and scope engagements accurately

Provide realistic effort estimates and define deliverables clearly

Serve as the technical lead and primary engineering point of accountability

Communicate proactively with clients and internal stakeholders

Required Qualifications 7+ years of hands-on experience with IBM I systems (AS/400, iSeries, and Power systems)

Proven experience implementing, upgrading, and migrating Power i environments

Strong experience with software and hardware replication (PowerHA and/or Mimix)

Experience writing technical Statements of Work (SOWs)

Experience with: LPAR configuration

IBM PowerVM

OS upgrades and PTF management

HA/DR architecture and implementation

Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills

Ability to lead engagements independently

Preferred Qualifications IBM Power Systems or IBM i certifications

Experience working with an IBM Business Partner or Managed Services Provider

Experience with IBM Storage solutions

Experience supporting enterprise or regulated environments

Experience with IBM System Planning Tool (SPT) and IBM Configurator for e-business (e-Config) tools

DFW-based candidates strongly preferred

Remote candidates must be willing to travel to: DFW metroplex

Client locations throughout Texas

Estimated travel: 20–40% depending on project demand
