The Opportunity
The Industrial Automation Controls Engineer - Arizona serves as an engineering resource on highly technical and complex industrial automation applications under the direction of a manager or Lead Industrial Automation Engineer. This role supports new and existing projects as a consultant, architect, programmer, and engineer for sales associates and customers while helping deliver advanced robotics and automation solutions in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment.
This position is ideal for a technically capable, customer-oriented engineer who enjoys solving automation challenges, supporting project execution, and building strong relationships with customers, internal teams, and vendor partners.
Key Responsibilities
· Support new and existing automation projects through development, programming, bug fixes, and feature enhancements.
· Help architect and implement hardware and software solutions to solve complex automation challenges.
· Cross-reference parts and assemble bills of material (BOMs) for Sales Engineers.
· Support production and commissioning activities, including testing and hardware implementation.
· Provide backup support to other Industrial Automation Engineers on projects and technical requests.
· Partner with customers to troubleshoot existing assets, recommend comparable offerings, and support hardware/software solutions.
· Travel to customer sites as needed for troubleshooting, demonstrations, and quoting support.
· Create videos and documents for instructional and promotional purposes.
· Develop and maintain relationships with vendor points of contact; participate in training on existing and new vendor solutions (including occasional out-of-state on-site training); and support product information sessions and demonstrations.
· Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business needs.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering discipline, or equivalent experience with demonstrated ability; electrical or software emphasis preferred.
· 0–4 years of technical experience; customer-facing experience preferred.
· Basic programming skills in PLC ladder logic and Structured Text, C-based languages, Python, or similar.
· Exposure to IEC 61131 software development, ladder logic, and motion control.
· Basic electronics knowledge, including AC and DC circuits, power, transistors, and relays.
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
· Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively to meet commitments and deadlines with supervision.
· Positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and commitment to process improvement, accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
· Willingness to work as part of an innovative, collaborative team and take on special projects as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
· Basic mechanical knowledge, including gear ratios, material properties, and classical physics.
· Experience supporting customer troubleshooting, demonstrations, and technical education in industrial automation environments.
· Interest in developing strong working relationships with vendors and participating in ongoing product training.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to travel to customer sites on time and with appropriate company-supplied equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
· $72,000-$80,000 annual salary, exempt, based on experience, skills, and qualifications.

Location and Schedule
This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Arizona, with a schedule that includes remote work, customer and vendor visits, and office time. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday on a daytime schedule, with flexibility based on business and project needs.
