Role Description
An Industrial Automation Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated systems used in manufacturing and industrial environments. This role focuses on improving operational efficiency, productivity, and safety through automation technologies and control systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop industrial automation systems and control solutions
- Program and configure PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and automation equipment
- Install, test, and maintain automated machinery and production systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve automation system issues
- Integrate sensors, robotics, and control systems into manufacturing processes
- Monitor system performance and implement improvements for efficiency
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and production teams
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and operational procedures
- Document system configurations, procedures, and maintenance activities
Qualifications
Typical qualifications for an Industrial Automation Specialist include:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related field
- 3–7 years of experience in industrial automation or control systems
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi)
- Experience with SCADA systems and HMI interfaces
- Understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of robotics and manufacturing systems is often preferred
