Job Summary
The Industrial Engineer will support all plant engineering functions and overall plant operations. This role focuses on improving efficiency, productivity, safety, and cost-effectiveness across manufacturing processes, equipment, and facility layouts. Strong experience with time and motion studies is required.
Key Responsibilities
Process & Productivity Engineering
- Conduct time and motion studies and establish labor standards using Time Studies or MOST analysis.
- Determine manpower requirements and optimize work methods to maximize productivity.
- Update labor routings, work instructions, and operation descriptions.
- Monitor production flow and resolve operational and production issues.
- Develop and implement productivity improvement and labor reduction initiatives.
- Perform cost analyses to evaluate feasibility of new products and processes.
- Analyze ergonomic risks and implement corrective solutions.
Plant Layout & Facilities
- Develop and implement plant layout modifications using AutoCAD.
- Design, specify, and modify work fixtures to support production needs.
- Manage facility alterations, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
- Research, specify, and purchase tools and equipment as required.
Controls & Automation Engineering
- Design control panels, layouts, wiring schematics, and bills of materials.
- Provide electrical and control system design for automation solutions, including PLC and SCADA systems.
- Participate in development, testing, commissioning, and validation of PLC/SCADA applications.
- Provide control engineering support for manufacturing systems and equipment.
- Define system requirements and develop functional specifications.
- Assist in developing control system standards and engineering procedures.
Quality, Compliance & Documentation
- Create and maintain APQP documentation (PFMEA, PFD, SWI) for current and future processes.
- Initiate, implement, and test change controls and corrective actions.
- Support manufacturing investigations related to processes and equipment.
- Ensure all designs and processes comply with OSHA, NEC, NFPA, GMP, and other applicable regulations.
- Assist with MOE certificate of approval processes.
- Prepare and maintain engineering and operational reports as required.
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate process improvements and implementation plans with staff and management.
- Learn and ensure compliance with product specifications and customer requirements.
- Provide recommendations to improve productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Support internal and external customer needs while maintaining high standards for quality and service.
Safety & Compliance
- Work safely and proactively report hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, WSIB, Human Rights, Employment Standards, and Labor Relations requirements.
- Perform other duties as required to support plant operations.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong experience with time and motion studies and labor standard development
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and plant operations
- AutoCAD experience for plant layout modifications
- Knowledge of industrial safety and regulatory compliance standards
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications:
- 3+ years of Industrial Engineering experience, preferably in manufacturing or automotive environments
- Lean Manufacturing experience
- Degree or diploma in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline
