Position: Instrument & Electrical (I&E) Designer
Instrument & Electrical (I&E) Designer Location: Anacortes, WA (On-site)
Contract: 12-month contract with strong likelihood of extension Rate: $55–$75/hour (No per diem; preference for local candidates).
Job Overview We are seeking a mid-level to senior Instrument & Electrical (I&E) Designer to support refinery projects and as-built documentation at an operating refinery in Anacortes, WA. This is a full-time, on-site contract role supporting ongoing capital and maintenance projects. The designer will work under the direction of a Lead I&E Designer and manage assigned design tasks independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform as-built documentation using existing drawings, field measurements, and verification
- Develop and update:
- Instrument layouts
- Wiring diagrams
- Electrical schematics
- Design cable tray layouts, conduit routing, panel arrangements, and connection details
- Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and equipment lists
- Conduct field walkdowns, site verification, and instrument tagging
- Coordinate with project engineers and other engineering disciplines
- Review drawings for accuracy and adherence to project scope
- Support construction, commissioning, and fabrication activities as required
Required Qualifications
- 5–15+ years of experience in Instrument & Electrical design (mid to senior level)
- Prior experience in a refinery or oil & gas environment
- Proficiency with AutoCAD
, SPI / Smart Instrumentation
, and Microsoft Office
- Strong background in instrumentation and electrical design
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and small design projects
- Active TWIC card required
- Must be able to work full-time on-site in Anacortes, WA
Work Environment
- On-site refinery setting with a mix of office-based design work and field verification
- Exposure to active processing units and operational facilities
