We are seeking an experienced Lead Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support and lead automation efforts across wastewater treatment facilities in the Phoenix area. This role will be responsible for driving control system design, overseeing implementation, and ensuring optimal performance in a fast-growing market with critical infrastructure needs. You’ll play a key role in supporting both new construction and upgrades to existing municipal and industrial wastewater systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and execution of instrumentation and control systems for wastewater treatment plants and lift stations
- Oversee PLC, HMI, and SCADA system development, integration, and optimization
- Develop and review control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists
- Specify and select instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, analyzers) aligned with project requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and municipal clients throughout project lifecycles
- Support field activities, including startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Ensure compliance with Arizona regulatory standards and industry best practices
- Identify and implement system improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and uptime
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across projects
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls, with a focus on wastewater or water treatment systems
- Hands-on experience with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of SCADA/HMI systems and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, etc.)
- Experience developing and interpreting technical drawings (P&IDs, wiring schematics, loop diagrams)
- Proven ability to lead projects and manage multiple priorities
