Main Function of the role:

To assist the Head of Asia ex Japan in running the Asia ex Japan Funds by providing research and analysis on existing and potential areas of investment.

Key task and responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed research reports and models on potential investments.
  • Meet with company management and maintain dialogue with management of existing holdings.
  • Maintain models and reports on existing holdings.
  • Investigate Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) factors.
  • Present and discuss ideas with members of the team.

Experience Required:

The candidate will have strong academic skills, analytical ability and experience. The role will suit a highly motivated self-starter who will prepare material that will contribute to stock selection within the portfolio. They should be a strong team player and effective at communicating ideas succinctly in writing and orally. They will be able to demonstrate clarity and independence of thought. They will show strong initiative. They should also be aligned with the philosophy of the desk which is long-term oriented, has a contrarian, value-conscious style and incorporates ESG.

Asian & GEM equities related experience is preferred. The candidate will be proficient at writing detailed but succinct investment analysis and constructing financial models on companies. They will also be able to usefully conduct meetings with company management.

Minimum requirements/Candidate Profile:

  • The ideal candidate will possess very strong academic credentials (particularly in maths and/or accountancy), holding a degree preferably a 2:1 or above in a STEM discipline or an advanced qualification. They should be proficient in accountancy.
  • They will possess or be working towards a CFA qualification
  • They will be able to communicate clearly and succinctly in both written and oral form
  • They will be adept at constructing financial models on companies
  • They will be able to prove a strong interest in fundamental, bottom-up, research-driven equity investing.
  • They will be skilled at using systems such as Bloomberg, Microsoft Word and Excel. Coding ability is preferred.
