Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Mid‑Level Investment Banking Associate to join our Metals & Mining coverage team in New York. The Associate will play a key role in transaction execution, client development, and industry analysis across a diverse group of global metals and mining clients. This role is well‑suited for candidates with strong analytical abilities, client‑facing maturity, and deep interest in the commercial, geopolitical, and supply‑chain forces shaping the global metals and mining landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Execution
- Lead day‑to‑day execution of M&A, debt, and equity transactions, including process management, due diligence, and valuation workstreams (DCF, trading/transaction comps, LBOs, accretion/dilution), and preparation of client materials.
- Build and review detailed financial models, including asset‑level operating models for mining assets.
- Coordinate effectively with internal partners and external advisors including legal counsel, consultants, accountants, lenders, and senior bankers.
Client Development & Pitching
- Deliver compelling, insight‑rich analytical work that strengthens Jefferies’ competitive positioning and helps win mandates.
- Utilize guidance from senior bankers to craft strategic ideas, creative angles, and differentiated views for clients.
- Participate directly in client pitch meetings and live discussions, gaining early and meaningful face‑to‑face exposure alongside senior team members.
- Support ongoing client relationship development across corporates, strategics, financial sponsors, and industry stakeholders.
Industry & Strategic Analysis
- Conduct in‑depth industry research on commodity supply/demand fundamentals, cost structures, mine‑level economics, regulatory environments, and downstream processing.
- Track and interpret market trends including electrification and critical minerals demand, decarbonization of industrial processes, recycling and secondary supply, and shifts in global trade and geopolitics.
Leadership & Team Collaboration
- Support, mentor, and train Analysts, contributing to their technical and professional growth.
- Work collaboratively across the broader Industrials platform and with other sector teams to support cross‑coverage opportunities.
Qualifications
- Experience in Metals & Mining, Industrials, and Energy preferred, with additional consideration for Defense, Natural Resources, or other adjacent sectors — but not required.
- 3–5 years of investment banking experience (M&A, capital markets, or corporate finance).
- Strong financial modeling and valuation skills, with ability to independently produce high‑quality analytical work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to produce polished client materials.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
