Job Description

Under supervision, performs beginning-level engineering work in the field and office following established engineering methods. Assists professional engineers in tasks requiring advanced engineering skill, and may direct work of technical/clerical staff. Performs related duties and provides written and oral responses to inquiries.

Major and Essential Duties

  • Prepares or assists in preparing studies, calculations, designs, drawings, sketches, and plans using AutoCAD and other software tools.
  • Makes field inspections of existing structures and sites to determine necessity for future construction, repair, or maintenance.
  • Conducts preliminary field studies and surveys and collects data related to design preparation.
  • Makes regular field inspections of construction and repair projects to ensure conformance with plans and codes.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of reports, contract specifications, material lists, cost estimates, schedules, and progress payments.
  • Prepares or assists in departmental reports concerning field conditions and project progress.
  • Provides written and oral responses to inquiries from agencies, contractors, and the public.
  • MAY direct the activities of technical and/or clerical staff.
  • Prepares correspondence and minutes.
  • Performs specialized duties in civil, mechanical, electrical, transportation, or environmental engineering.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a baccalaureate or graduate degree accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) with a major in Electrical Engineering.
  • OR possession of a non-ABET accredited degree with a major in Electrical Engineering and a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by NCEES.
  • OR possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering from the California Board of Professional Engineers.

Notes

  • Candidates projected to graduate within six months of the filing deadline will be invited to take the examination but will not be eligible to be hired until they have met one of the minimum qualifications.
  • Candidates within six months of graduation from a non-ABET program must possess an EIT by the filing deadline to be invited to the examination.
  • Most positions also require a valid California driver license.
