Position Summary
The Vertex technology team develops internal proprietary software to enhance venture capital investment analysis and operations. Our AI platform supports deal flow sourcing and management, CRM capabilities, and investment analysis — directly enabling our funds to make better, faster decisions.
As a Senior / Lead AI Software Engineer, you will own the end-to-end delivery of complex AI systems — from agentic and LLM-powered applications to production full-stack features — while helping shape the team's technical direction. You will be part of a small, agile, and innovative team driving tangible impact in venture capital.
Your Objectives
- Design and build AI-powered features across our deal flow, portfolio management, and CRM platform.
- Be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, experimentation and prototyping, implementation, and deployment.
- Explore the latest advancements in Gen AI and agentic systems, integrating relevant solutions into operational workflows to achieve business outcomes.
- Share knowledge and support fellow engineers in a small, close-knit team.
- Partner closely with investment partners and analysts to understand needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Invest continuously in building and extending your knowledge and skills in AI engineering.
What We Are Looking For
AI Engineering - LLM & Agentic Systems
- Practical hands-on experience building with LLMs, with primary proficiency in LangChain and LangGraph for agentic and RAG workflows.
- Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, and OpenRouter APIs.
- Demonstrated ability to build autonomous AI agents with capabilities including tool use, reasoning, planning, and multi-step task execution.
- Experience deploying Gen AI solutions to production, including RAG architectures and multi-agent systems.
- Good understanding of prompt engineering and LLM evaluation techniques.
Platform & Engineering
- Strong fundamentals in full-stack software development, with experience working on production applications and maintaining existing codebases.
- Proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript; hands-on experience with Django, FastAPI, React, Next.js, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience deploying and managing applications on GCP using automation, containers, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform).
- Practical experience with CI/CD, serverless computing, code version control, and automated testing.
- Experience with automated data pipelines, data ingestion, and integration of external APIs and data sources.
Agentic Coding & Developer Productivity
- Comfortable leveraging AI-assisted and agentic coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor) as a core part of the development workflow.
- Ability to use LLMs to accelerate prototyping, code review, debugging, and documentation.
- Stay current with rapidly evolving AI tooling and quickly evaluate new capabilities as they emerge.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of working experience in a technical software engineering, AI, or data engineering role.
- Proven track record of delivering AI or LLM-powered systems to production.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a small, agile team.
