Lead BI Reporting Developer

Systematix is currently seeking a Lead BI Reporting Developer for a key client in the GTA. This is a hybrid opportunity requiring 4 days per week onsite.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Our client’s reporting environment is operational and actively supporting the business, with established Power BI semantic models across purchasing, sales, finance, and other ERP-driven domains. However, the platform now requires further scaling, standardization, and technical leadership to mature into a highly scalable, governed, and self-service analytics ecosystem.

The organization’s long-term vision is to enable business users to self-serve their reporting needs confidently while maintaining structured governance and performance standards.

This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who thrives in scaling and refining an existing BI platform — not someone seeking to define strategy, but someone who excels at executing and delivering within an established roadmap.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is primarily a hands-on build role (~75%) with technical leadership responsibilities (~25%).

You will:

• Lead and mentor a small reporting team of two developers
• Design, enhance, and optimize Power BI semantic models
• Build and refine reports, dashboards, and scalable data models
• Standardize and improve existing automated data pipelines
• Strengthen governance, naming conventions, and development standards
• Work closely with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions
• Support ERP-integrated reporting (Tecsys ERP environment)
• Review and improve SQL-based data extraction processes
• Contribute to maturing reporting standards and performance optimization

The BI strategy and roadmap are defined by leadership. This role focuses on execution, technical ownership, and delivery excellence.

TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT

• Power BI (Desktop & Service)
• Semantic models across purchasing, sales, finance
• SQL (PostgreSQL & SQL Server)
• Python scripts supporting data processing
• Automated (but not fully standardized) data pipelines
• ERP: Tecsys

REQUIREMENTS

Must-Have:

• 7+ years of experience in reporting and business intelligence development
• 5+ years of hands-on Power BI experience
• Strong expertise in data modeling and DAX
• Solid SQL skills (PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server)
• Experience working with semantic models and enterprise datasets
• Experience standardizing and scaling BI/reporting environments
• Ability to mentor and provide technical direction to mid-level developers
• Experience integrating reporting with ERP systems
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience working with Postgres-based ERP systems (Tecsys a strong asset)
• Exposure to Python for data manipulation
• Experience supporting post-ERP go-live reporting stabilization
• Familiarity with Power Automate or reporting automation tools

TEAM STRUCTURE

• You will lead two reporting developers
• One mid-level developer (3–4 years experience)
• One senior consultant
• This role provides technical leadership but not formal HR performance management

PAY DISCLOSURE

The average hourly pay range for this field is as follows:

Intermediate: $80–$90/hr

Senior: $90–$100/hr

Compensation is commensurate with experience, technical depth, and leadership capability.
