Our client, a leading innovator in the chemical industry, is looking for a Lead Chemical Process Engineer to join their esteemed team in the heart of New York City. As a Lead Chemical Process Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, optimization, and scale-up of chemical processes. You will lead projects from conception to completion, ensuring efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with research and development teams to bring new products to market.

Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of new chemical processes and the optimization of existing ones. Conduct feasibility studies, pilot plant trials, and scale-up analyses. Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications. Perform process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software. Ensure processes comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality control protocols. Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, operations, and project management. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior chemical engineers. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively. Stay current with advancements in chemical engineering technologies and methodologies. Prepare technical reports and present findings to management and stakeholders. Optimize processes for yield, purity, energy efficiency, and waste reduction. Ensure adherence to Process Safety Management (PSM) principles.

Qualifications:

Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline. 7+ years of experience in chemical process design, development, and scale-up, preferably within the specialty chemicals or pharmaceuticals sector. Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Strong knowledge of chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics. Experience with P&IDs, PFDs, and equipment design. Familiarity with GMP and regulatory requirements is a significant advantage. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead technical teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
