We are seeking a technical leader for our Data Engineering team who will partner with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to help build an innovative platform for the future of computing. Your contributions will significantly correlate with company growth and user satisfaction. You will work alongside industry experts, manage one of the richest datasets globally, and utilize cutting-edge technology to see the effects of your work on our products and users regularly.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data infrastructure and architecture, as well as proven expertise in managing company-wide data marts, implementing security and privacy measures, and a comprehensive understanding of analytical technologies. A successful track record in leading and scaling end-to-end analytics systems, enhancing processes for efficiency, project management skills, and a proactive vision for leveraging data to advance the company are key attributes we are looking for.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the vision for our data foundation and analytics to accelerate the development and optimization of cross-platform components across Instagram, while executing a strategic plan to achieve that vision.
- Oversee the data architecture for various large-scale projects, evaluating design and operational cost-benefit tradeoffs within systems.
- Develop frameworks that enhance data logging efficacy, collaborating with data infrastructure to resolve issues proactively.
- Foster cross-functional relationships with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to meet and deliver data-driven needs.
- Define and manage service level agreements (SLAs) for all data sets under your ownership.
- Establish and implement the required security models based on privacy standards, ensuring compliance, addressing data quality issues, and evolving governance processes.
- Design and launch sophisticated data models and visualizations supporting use cases across diverse products or domains.
- Resolve challenging data integration problems using optimal ETL approaches, frameworks, and queries across structured and unstructured data sources.
- Own and optimize existing production processes, enhancing complex code through advanced algorithmic concepts.
- Improve pipelines, dashboards, frameworks, and systems to facilitate the easier development of data artifacts.
- Influence product and cross-functional teams to identify and capitalize on data opportunities that drive impact.
- Provide mentorship to team members through actionable feedback.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience in the data warehouse domain.
- 10+ years of experience in custom ETL design, implementation, and maintenance.
- 10+ years of experience with object-oriented programming languages.
- 10+ years of experience in schema design and dimensional data modeling.
- 10+ years of experience in writing SQL statements.
- Proven ability to analyze data to identify deliverables, gaps, and inconsistencies.
- Experience managing and communicating data warehouse plans to internal clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS/BA in a Technical Field, Computer Science, or Mathematics.
- Experience with either a MapReduce or an MPP system.
- Knowledge of and practical experience with Python.
- Experience working independently within global teams.
- Demonstrated ability to influence product decisions using data insights.
- Proven ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and achieve measurable impacts (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements).
- Experience with responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews).
- Ongoing development of AI skills (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and familiarity with emerging AI technologies.
Compensation:
$210,000/year to $281,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
