Job Description

Overview: We are seeking an experienced Principal Data Engineer with a strong background in architecture and expertise in MS Fabric and Azure. This role is offered on a contract basis and is fully remote.

Company: Our client is a leading global investment management organization known for its independent research and diversified strategies in both fixed income and equities. They serve institutional and mutual fund clients and focus on security selection driven by proprietary analysis.

Compensation: $80.00 to $100.00/hr (W2)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of a CRM-sourced data mart to support Power BI.
  • Define and establish star schemas and relational database structures.
  • Design and develop ETL processes and data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric and related services.
  • Set and uphold best practices for data architecture and engineering.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to convert requirements into technical solutions.
  • Provide hands-on coding while mentoring team members in modern data practices.
  • Build the foundation for an enterprise data warehouse and influence the roadmap for future initiatives.

Experience Requirements:

  • Extensive expertise in Microsoft data technologies, including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse.
  • 10+ years of experience in star schema design and relational modeling.
  • 8 years of experience in creating and managing ETL processes and production data pipelines.
  • Experience integrating datasets for Power BI and employing visualization-oriented data modeling techniques.
  • Proven ability to independently lead projects from conception through to delivery.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with business and technical teams.
  • Familiarity with data lake and warehouse concepts, including SQL, Delta, and Parquet.
  • Experience with Databricks is a plus.
  • Understanding of CRM systems and sales data structures is preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial data modeling, including securities, instruments, and portfolios, is advantageous.
  • Availability to work remotely during East Coast business hours.
