About the job

Job Title:

Lead Edge AI Engineer

Salary:

$200K – $300K + competitive equity

Location:

Fully remote, Toronto or Bay Area preferred

Company Description:

$15M-backed edge-native AI infrastructure startup, 30-person team, Fully remote

Job Description:

Join a 30-person team building the infrastructure that lets AI run where data actually gets created, on devices, satellites, and IoT hardware instead of distant clouds. The cloud-first model is broken for a growing category of use cases where latency, privacy, and connectivity constraints make centralized compute a non-starter. This company is building the foundational layer that makes edge AI as simple as cloud deployment, and they have raised $15M with Series A conversations underway while staying focused on revenue and real customer partnerships first.

One person has ever left this engineering team. The founder has built multiple startups before and runs genuinely autonomous team structures where you own your roadmap instead of being handed a ticket queue.

Why this role is remarkable:

  • Own the edge AI engineering roadmap and define the standards for how AI operates in decentralized, privacy-preserving networks, at a company solving a problem that the entire cloud-first AI industry has either ignored or failed to crack
  • Join a 30-person team with near-zero attrition, led by a multi-time founder who believes in autonomous team structures and has raised $15M while staying disciplined about building real customer value first before chasing fundraising milestones
  • Work at the intersection of Rust, Go, and Python on genuinely hard infrastructure problems across IoT devices, embedded systems, and edge hardware, with the scope to build and scale a team of 10 plus engineers underneath you

What you will do:

  • Architect and build the AI layer on top of an edge-native data management stack, enabling developers to easily deploy AI across edge devices with the right privacy guarantees and without cloud dependencies
  • Own the edge AI engineering roadmap end-to-end, define standards for how AI operates in decentralized networks, and lead a team of engineers with genuine autonomy over priorities and direction
  • Work directly with partners, customers, and the open source community to prioritize features, drive adoption of edge AI developer tooling, and shape what this infrastructure looks like as the space matures

The ideal candidate:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience managing autonomous or startup-style engineering teams with a track record of building and scaling teams of at least 10 engineers, from a startup environment or big tech company that genuinely operates like a startup, with an active GitHub showing visible code quality and open source contributions
  • Proficient in Go, Rust, and Python with genuine hands-on experience in edge environments including IoT devices, local hardware, or embedded systems, not cloud-only AI work, and curiosity for verifiable computing, zero-trust architectures, and data-centric AI design
  • A polyglot who is comfortable learning new languages based on what the problem requires, product-minded enough to prioritize based on stakeholder conversations rather than waiting for assigned tasks, and someone who has been coding autonomously since they figured out how to make computers do interesting things
