Position Summary
This role is for an experienced Electrical Engineering Lead (physical electrical) with extensive substation experience to support a growing energy engineering practice. The position works as part of an integrated, multidisciplinary team—including civil, structural, environmental, planning, and regulatory groups—supporting energy project design, permitting, and delivery. The ideal candidate will lead and grow substation-focused electrical engineering services, manage physical electrical aspects of projects from initiation through closeout, support business development and client relations, and serve as a client-facing point of contact while demonstrating strong project management, leadership, and seller-doer capabilities.
Job Function
- Lead and grow electrical engineering services supporting transmission and distribution substations
- Engage in business development and maintain client relationships
- Manage physical electrical aspects of substation capital improvement and maintenance projects from initiation through closeout
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and serve as the client-facing point of contact for physical electrical work
- Develop and review drawings, material lists, calculations, analyses, reports, and specifications
- Prepare one-line diagrams, conduit sizing and layouts, physical layouts and elevations, and equipment specifications
- Perform AC/DC calculations and studies including voltage drop, lightning, grounding, and lighting
- Support construction through site visits and RFI/submittal reviews
- Monitor and manage project financial performance
- Build and mentor a team to support professional development and project success
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
- 8–11+ years of relevant experience required
- 5+ years of substation experience preferred
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Expertise in physical electrical design for substation projects
- Strong business development and market connectivity skills
- Proven project and client relationship management experience
- Ability to oversee designers and CADD technicians in accordance with national design standards and safety codes
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong report writing and presentation capabilities
- Self-motivated with critical thinking ability
- Experience with ETAP, CDEGS, CAPE, and Aspen preferred
- Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD preferred
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
- Experience working in the northeastern United States preferred
