Biometrics & Profiling (B&P) Centre of Expertise is committed to advance capabilities in the areas of identity science and biometric recognition. The job-holder is part of an interdisciplinary team that focuses on researching, developing and evaluating Biometrics technologies for the Home Team.

What You Will Be Working On

Successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team, which works in the interdisciplinary field of Biometrics. Biometrics is an important mode of identity authentication, integral in many aspects of daily life, from safeguarding personal devices to facilitating global travel. Developments in this field are thus critical factors in maintaining and ensuring the safety and security of Singapore.

The job-holder will be responsible for the following, but not limited to which:

  • Research on the fundamental technology used in biometric sensors, algorithms and be acquainted with the potential vulnerabilities of each biometric solutioning.
  • Keep up-to-date with state-of-the-art biometrics technologies developed by both industry and academia.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for conducting biometric systems testing and assessment.
  • Experiment, design and innovate novel methodologies for conducting biometric systems testing.
  • Develop novel solutions, at the sensor and/or algorithm level, that are capable of force multiplying and transforming Home Team operations.
  • Work with team members in conducting biometrics systems evaluation according to SOPs and risk assessment plan, and present the collected data and risk assessment analysis to Home Team stakeholders using appropriate visualisation tool.

What We Are Looking For

Candidates should possess:

  • Minimum tertiary qualification (Degree) in Science, Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering and/or related disciplines
  • Preferably with 1 to 3 years working experience in a technical role in Biometrics or related fields;
  • Candidates with no prior experiences are welcome to apply.
  • Good understanding of:
  • Biometric traits and their significance.
  • Components of biometric systems and methods to assess their performance.
  • Technologies used in biometric sensors and recognition algorithms.
  • Anti-spoofing solutions and methodologies for biometric systems testing.
  • Statistics and mathematics, including probability, sampling method, linear algebra and more
  • Experience in programming and software development is preferred:
  • Using languages such as C#, Python, Java, JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Involving machine learning and artificial intelligence, more specifically in the fields of computer vision or deep neural networks
  • Familiar with containerisation technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Hands-on experience in using industry-standard computer-aided design (CAD) software to customised 3D models will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrate self-directed learning
  • Highly adaptable to changes in a fast-paced environment, with proven ability to effectively prioritize and deliver tasks on schedule
  • Have good interpersonal and communications skills for engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Be able to work independently as well as being a good team player
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Be able to write and speak well

All new hires are appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance and will be assessed and considered for permanent tenure over time, based on performance.
