Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Industrial Engineer to spearhead process optimization initiatives within their manufacturing operations in San Diego, California, US . This role is critical for enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving overall productivity across various production lines and facilities. The Lead Industrial Engineer will be responsible for analyzing existing workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and designing and implementing solutions that leverage lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and advanced engineering techniques. You will lead a team of engineers, provide technical guidance, and collaborate closely with operations management, quality assurance, and supply chain teams. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, and a proven ability to drive tangible improvements. Responsibilities include developing simulation models, designing plant layouts, optimizing material flow, and implementing automation strategies.

Key Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and implementation of process improvements and optimization projects. Analyze current manufacturing processes, identifying inefficiencies, waste, and areas for cost reduction. Develop and utilize simulation tools, statistical analysis, and data modeling to evaluate process changes. Design and recommend new workflows, layouts, and equipment configurations to enhance productivity and quality. Implement lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) and Six Sigma methodologies. Lead and mentor a team of industrial engineers, providing technical expertise and project oversight. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, quality, and supply chain, to ensure successful implementation of recommendations. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions. Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to process efficiency, cost, and quality. Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and innovative engineering solutions. Qualifications: Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. 7+ years of progressive experience in industrial engineering within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience in leading complex process improvement projects and teams. Expertise in lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred), and statistical process control (SPC). Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Arena, FlexSim) and CAD tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders. Experience with automation and robotics is a plus.
