Our client is seeking an accomplished Lead Materials Scientist to spearhead groundbreaking research and development initiatives within their state-of-the-art facility in Toronto, Ontario, CA . This is a critical, hands-on role requiring deep expertise in material characterization, synthesis, and performance evaluation. You will lead a team of talented researchers, directing experimental design, data analysis, and the translation of scientific discoveries into tangible product innovations. The scope of work encompasses advanced materials for a variety of cutting-edge applications.
Key Responsibilities include:
Directing and executing complex research projects focused on the development of novel materials, including polymers, composites, and nanomaterials. Designing and implementing advanced experimental methodologies for material synthesis, processing, and characterization using techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, and DSC. Analyzing experimental data, interpreting results, and formulating conclusions to guide further research and development efforts. Leading a team of scientists and technicians, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and performance management. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product development, engineering, and manufacturing, to ensure successful technology transfer and commercialization. Identifying and evaluating new research opportunities and technologies to maintain a competitive edge. Authoring and presenting research findings in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific conferences. Ensuring compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements. Managing project budgets and timelines effectively. Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related field. Minimum of 8 years of post-doctoral research experience in materials science or a related discipline, with a proven track record of innovation and publication. Demonstrated experience in leading research teams and managing R&D projects. Extensive hands-on experience with a wide range of material characterization techniques. Strong theoretical understanding of material properties, phase transformations, and structure-property relationships. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences. Experience in intellectual property development is a significant asset.
