Job DescriptionMechanical Engineer | Lead Engineer | Cooling Systems | Pipework | Waterloop | Project Delivery | London / South | Hybrid A key appointment within a growing, engineering-led business delivering complex mechanical systems across high-spec, process-driven environments. This role offers the opportunity to lead and take ownership of cooling systems and pipework solutions, influencing projects from early-stage specification through to installation, commissioning, and client handover. While there is strong alignment to data centre environments, we are equally interested in individuals from pharmaceutical, food & beverage, semi-conductor, or other clean/process-led sectors.The Role As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will act as a technical authority within the business, providing sign-off and direction across projects. Operating at the intersection of engineering, project delivery, and client interaction, you will take ownership of the technical integrity of solutions, ensuring they are robust, compliant, and commercially viable. This is a hybrid role, not purely design and not purely project management, but a lead technical position embedded within delivery, with responsibility for guiding decisions and outcomes, including regular engagement with clients to shape specification and technical direction.Key Areas of Focus

  • Leading the interpretation and development of client specifications across cooling systems and mechanical pipework
  • Defining and overseeing waterloop and pipework solutions, including system layouts and key components
  • Acting as technical sign-off on designs, engineering changes, and system performance
  • Collaborating with internal engineering teams to validate feasibility and optimise solutions
  • Supporting estimating and pre-construction with high-quality, commercially aware technical input
  • Providing technical leadership during project delivery, including:
  • Engineering changes and revisions
  • Installation standards and best practice
  • Performance optimisation
  • Supporting commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of systems
  • Acting as the key technical interface between clients, engineering teams, and delivery functions

The Person You are likely to be:

  • A Lead Mechanical Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, or Mechanical Project Engineer with strong technical grounding
  • Operating within building services, process engineering, or high-spec mechanical environments
  • Experienced across design, installation, commissioning, and project delivery

You will bring:

  • Proven ability to take ownership of technical decisions and sign-off
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, cooling applications, and pipework infrastructure
  • Confidence operating in client-facing environments, influencing decisions and outcomes
  • The ability to act as a trusted technical authority across projects

Previous experience acting as a technical authority or sign-off point on mechanical systems would be advantageous. You may have:

  • Progressed from an engineering role into technical leadership or project/package ownership
  • Or be operating at senior level and looking to step into a more influential, lead position

Sector experience could include:

  • Data centres or mission-critical environments
  • Pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, or semi-conductor
  • Other clean, regulated, or process-driven industries

  • £70,000–£90,000 depending on experience
  • Bonus, car allowance, pension, and wider benefits package
  • Hybrid working, with 1 to 2 days per week in London (King’s Cross)
  • Travel across the UK and Europe as required
