Summary:

Meta's Fundamental AI Research lab (FAIR) is excited to announce an opening for a Lead Research Engineer focused on Reinforcement Learning for Design and Engineering tasks. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead a groundbreaking research initiative aimed at training large language models (LLMs) to tackle complex design and engineering challenges. Your mission will involve collaborating with a talented team of researchers to establish a robust research agenda centered on simulation and reinforcement learning from verifiable rewards (RLVR). Additionally, you will contribute to the creation of innovative pretraining and mid-training techniques, while also developing and deploying novel benchmarks and reinforcement learning environments.

This position demands strong technical leadership and research engineering skills, with the ability to independently navigate a diverse array of open-ended machine learning challenges. Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit research and technical leadership in the context of exploratory research.
  • Construct and maintain robust reinforcement learning training pipelines to scale across multiple, complex tasks.
  • Design, develop, and integrate simulation environments for relevant design and engineering challenges.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in machine learning engineering, research, or a similar technical role.
  • Proficient in Python and familiar with ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify, design, and execute medium to large technical features.
  • Familiar with software engineering best practices, including version control, testing, and code review.
  • Experience in adapting to rapidly changing priorities and working independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, AI, or a relevant technical field.
  • Proven track record of high-quality research publications in top-tier ML conferences (e.g., ICLR, NeurIPS).
  • Experience leading exploratory research projects.
  • Domain expertise in challenging design or engineering problems.

Public Compensation:

$219,000/year to $301,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
