Our client is at the forefront of cutting-edge scientific discovery and is seeking a highly motivated Lead Research Scientist specializing in Bioinformatics to join their esteemed R&D team in Atlanta, Georgia, US . This role is critical for driving innovation in complex biological data analysis. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of genomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics, coupled with extensive experience in developing and applying advanced computational and statistical methods to large-scale biological datasets.
Responsibilities will include designing and executing research projects, analyzing diverse biological data (e.g., next-generation sequencing data, microarray data), developing novel algorithms and pipelines for data analysis, and interpreting research findings to guide further experimental design. You will also be responsible for leading a team of bioinformaticians and researchers, mentoring junior staff, collaborating with cross-functional teams including biologists, chemists, and clinicians, and contributing to scientific publications and grant proposals. The ability to translate complex biological questions into computational approaches and to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences is paramount.
A Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field is required. A minimum of 8 years of post-doctoral or industry research experience in bioinformatics is essential, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Proven expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, and Perl, along with extensive experience with Unix/Linux environments and high-performance computing clusters, is mandatory. Familiarity with common bioinformatics databases, ontologies, and public resources is expected. Strong understanding of molecular biology principles and experience with various statistical and machine learning techniques applied to biological data are critical. Excellent problem-solving skills, a creative mindset, and a passion for scientific exploration are highly valued for this on-site position.
