About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Lead/Senior Data Scientist to join our customer’s fast-paced Data Center of Excellence (CoE), focused on delivering innovative solutions across the financial services landscape. This role will lead impactful initiatives in areas such as credit risk modeling, fraud detection, investment analytics, regulatory compliance, and financial forecasting. The ideal candidate brings strong quantitative expertise, hands-on machine learning experience, and a deep understanding of finance industry use cases.
This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence 3 days per week in Temple, TX. A future office will open in Austin, TX. Candidates within a 50–100-mile radius are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development and deployment of machine learning models for credit risk scoring, fraud detection, portfolio analysis, and macroeconomic forecasting.
- Build and enhance statistical and predictive models for use cases such as loan underwriting, customer segmentation, and financial product pricing.
- Design and implement scalable, production-ready data science pipelines for financial analytics.
- Collaborate with finance, risk, compliance, and engineering teams to align models with regulatory requirements and business objectives.
- Apply techniques such as time-series forecasting, Monte Carlo simulations, and Bayesian inference for scenario modeling and stress testing.
- Establish standards and best practices for model governance, validation, and monitoring in accordance with financial regulations (e.g., Basel III, IFRS 9, SOX).
- Mentor and guide junior data scientists; promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Communicate complex modeling insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives and cross-functional partners.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field; or 8+ years of experience as a Data Scientist with 3+ years in financial services.
- Proven experience in developing and deploying machine learning models in the finance sector (e.g., credit scoring, fraud detection, investment strategy).
- Proficiency in Python and relevant ML libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Strong command of SQL and experience handling large financial datasets.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and ML Ops tools like Databricks and MLflow.
- Solid understanding of financial regulations and risk frameworks (e.g., CCAR, Basel III, Dodd-Frank).
- Experience working with financial data sources including market data (Bloomberg, Reuters), transactional data, and credit bureau datasets.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with real-time data processing and analytics (e.g., Kafka, Spark Streaming).
- Exposure to algorithmic trading, robo-advisory platforms, or investment modeling.
- Familiarity with ESG finance, blockchain analytics, or digital asset modeling.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, or Azure Machine Learning Studio.
