DESCRIPTION
The mission of the Student Health & Well-Being (SHW) cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.
The UC San Diego SHW cluster, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the Executive Director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS); Health Promotion Services (HPS); Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS); Assessment and Analytics (SHAA), Strategic Planning, Innovation and Research (SPIR); and SHW Administration (ADM). The SHW cluster provides health promotion, counseling and psychological services and primary medical care, including urgent care and support services, to all UC San Diego's undergraduate, graduate and professional students and UC affiliates. Staff consists of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, pharmacists, optometrists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, radiology technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, medical assistants, health educators, data scientists, administrative, financial and other healthcare professionals.
SHW Administration provides full administrative, business, financial and infrastructure services, including support for the Executive Director's Office, resource planning, budget management, information systems, contracts management; human resource management, medical and health staff credentialing and privileging; medical records management, insurance management, patient billing and collections; facilities, equipment and space.
Provides leadership, oversight and management for Student Health and Well-being (SHW) organization-wide business and financial operations, multi-million dollar funding allocations, financial planning and resource planning. Develops internal financial policies and procedures, financial forecasting, centralized resource analysis and management, and financial management for all operations within SHW, with approximately $120 million in annual revenue and funding allocations, $120 million in annual expenses, and approximately 200 FTEs, allocating permanent operating funds, student services fee funds, State funds, gifts, awards and other one-time resources, related to strategic initiatives and general support administration. Manages SHW's annual budget processes, as well as supports all business operations and issues for SHW cluster departments -- Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Health Promotion Services, SHW Administration, Strategic Planning, Innovation and Research, and Assessments and Analytics. Manages funding agreements and MOUs with departments across campus and UC San Diego Health. Serves as senior financial analyst, planner and subject matter expert for the SHW Business and Finance Operations, responsible for short- and long-term analyses of available and projected financial resources, and developing policy for budget and financial management.
Responsibilities require collaboration with SHW senior leaders, UC San Diego Health-Budget Office and CFO Office, Campus Budget Office and Controller's Office, UC Office of the President, and external constituents, maintaining strictest confidentiality of privileged information, and performing a wide range of duties that require tact, sensitivity, independent judgment, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility.
Provides high-level professional support in financial planning, analysis and implementation of major initiatives and projects. Participates on various standing or ad hoc committees. Develops and implements guidelines for managing SHW organization-wide staffing budget and employee benefits pool. Provides expert guidance to Department Directors, operations staff, and human resource partners on annual staffing and expense budget allocations. Serves as resource management subject matter expert and conducts complex analyses of operational issues including space planning/management, with a focus on finance and budget.
