Role overview:
The Manager, People Technology Platform Engineering (Workday) is responsible for leading a team of Platform and Integration Engineers and being responsible for the design, delivery, and continuous evolution of SIE’s global Workday platform.
Working with the Director, People Technology Services, this role combines people leadership with platform accountability, ensuring that the team delivers scalable, reliable, and well-architected solutions across the People Technology ecosystem. The role is responsible for shaping how the platform is built and operated, balancing delivery execution with long-term system sustainability.
This role operates within an Agile product delivery model and plays a critical role in establishing a focused, engineering-led operating model. The manager partners closely with Product, Data, and Architecture team members to align platform capabilities with business priorities.
Operating in a global, matrixed environment, this role leads a distributed team across regions, ensuring alignment, consistency, and high-quality outcomes across time zones.
What you'll be doing:
Engineering Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, and develop a team of People Technology Platform Engineers and Integration Engineers (P3), setting clear expectations for ownership, engineering quality, and delivery outcomes
Build a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and engineering excellence
Ensure team members develop both domain depth and platform engineering capability
Lead performance, provide regular feedback, and address performance issues directly and constructively
Ensure appropriate coverage across platform domains while maintaining balanced workloads
Platform Ownership & Strategy
Oversee the design, stability, and continuous evolution of the Workday platform across domains
Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with platform architecture and engineering standards
Guide design decisions and trade-offs, balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term platform health
Partner with leadership to shape the roadmap and evolution of People Technology capabilities
Delivery Leadership & Execution
Be responsible for the effective delivery of platform changes across both run and change initiatives
Establish and maintain structured delivery mechanisms (e.g., backlog management, sprint cadence, prioritization frameworks)
Ensure work is clearly defined, prioritized, and aligned with business outcomes and team capacity
Monitor delivery progress, remove blockers, and ensure timely, high-quality outcomes
Balance responsiveness to partners with sustainable delivery practices
Platform Operations & Reliability
Ensure the reliability and performance of the Workday platform through effective operational practices
Supervise issue management, ensuring root cause resolution and continuous improvement
Identify systemic issues and drive structural improvements to platform stability and scalability
Track and improve key performance indicators related to platform reliability and delivery effectiveness
Stakeholder Partnership & Demand Shaping
Partner with the business to translate business needs into structured, actionable work aligned with platform capabilities
Provide clear communication on priorities, delivery timelines, risks, and trade-offs
Manage expectations, ensuring alignment between demand and delivery capacity
Influence toward scalable, platform-aligned solutions rather than one-off requests
Multi-functional & Global Collaboration
Collaborate with Product, Integration, Data, and Security teams to deliver cohesive, end-to-end solutions
Coordinate cross-domain initiatives, ensuring alignment across platform components
Lead effectively across a distributed team, establishing working rhythms that support collaboration and productivity
Bring up appropriately when architectural, cross-team, or capacity constraints arise
Governance, Compliance & Engineering Standards
Ensure alignment to data privacy, security, and audit requirements across platform solutions
Reinforce engineering standards, design patterns, and governance practices
Ensure consistent documentation, testing, and release management practices
Contribute to the evolution of operating models, standards, and ways of working
