Our client, a prominent leader in the manufacturing sector, is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Process Engineer with a specialization in Automation to join their Boston facility. This role is pivotal in enhancing production efficiency, quality, and safety through the design, implementation, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of industrial automation technologies, process control, and lean manufacturing principles, driving continuous improvement on the factory floor. This is an on-site position, crucial for hands-on involvement with machinery and production teams.
Responsibilities: Design, develop, and implement automated manufacturing processes and systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Specify, select, and integrate automation equipment, including robotics, PLCs, HMI, vision systems, and sensors. Develop and troubleshoot automation control logic and software for various manufacturing equipment. Conduct process improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, areas for improvement, and opportunities for automation. Create and maintain process documentation, including P&IDs, SOPs, and equipment manuals. Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to support new product introductions and process validation. Ensure all automated systems comply with safety regulations and industry standards. Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations personnel on automated equipment. Collaborate with vendors and external partners for equipment installation, commissioning, and support. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing process engineering, with a strong focus on automation and control systems. Proven experience with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, and robotic systems (e.g., FANUC, KUKA). Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus). Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. Proficiency in CAD software for process and equipment design. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills. Strong project management capabilities with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse teams. Experience in the manufacturing industry, preferably in high-volume production environments.
