Job Description

You will own manufacturing projects that end up in satellites, nuclear fusion reactors, submarines and robotics. A profitable, bootstrapped London manufacturing partner is hiring a Manufacturing Project Engineer to take ownership of a portfolio of demanding hardware customers. £45,000 to £50,000, four days a week in their studio, with funded factory visits to China.

Scope of the Role

The Manufacturing Project Engineer owns customer projects from RFQ through to delivered parts. As Manufacturing Project Engineer, you sit between UK and European hardware businesses and a network of UK and Chinese partner factories.

  • Review CAD models and drawings, spot DFM issues early, and feed back to customers in plain language
  • Brief partner factories so they quote and manufacture exactly what the customer expects
  • Issue customer quotes, explain trade offs, and follow up without applying pressure
  • Track orders through production, manage slippage, and handle quality issues calmly
  • Become the first call for a portfolio of repeat customers

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven background as a Manufacturing Engineer, Project Engineer, Design Engineer, or Applications Engineer in a product environment
  • Practical DFM knowledge for CNC machined parts, plus working knowledge of finishing (anodising, plating, bead blasting)
  • Confident reading and interrogating CAD models and 2D drawings, even where you are not the detailed designer
  • Demonstrable ability to manage multiple live projects at once without dropping threads
  • Calm, clear written and spoken communication, with a track record of delivering inconvenient news without drama

Salary and Benefits

  • £45,000 to £50,000 base depending on experience
  • Discretionary bonus moving to a team based revenue scheme once established
  • 33 days holiday (25 plus bank holidays plus your birthday)
  • Full private health including mental health, same day GP and physio
  • Employer pension contributions
  • Funded travel to partner factories in the UK and China
  • MacBook Pro, ultrawide monitor and home office kit
  • Discounted manufacturing for personal side projects

Our client is a profitable, bootstrapped manufacturing partner founded in 2014, named in the 2024 FT1000 list of Europe's fastest growing companies. The team is small, the work is varied (parts for space, fusion, robotics, submarines), and the founder still runs the model himself. The Manufacturing Project Engineer joins as the fourth person in a tight Lee, SE12 studio, with genuine ownership of a customer portfolio from day one.
