This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

In this role you will be a part of the GS2PA M&P team that performs tasks related to the design, manufacture, and operation of the New Glenn 2nd stage variants.

You will leverage your technical knowledge and expertise to design, develop, and improve processes. You will support all aspects of the product lifecycle; development, production, and sustainment with a mindset towards reducing the cost of access to space.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate and select metallic materials for usage in liquid fuel rockets, taking into consideration mechanical properties, thermal properties, and environmental factors.
  • Collaborate with design, analysis and manufacturing teams to integrate material and process requirements into the system design.
  • Ensure specialized processes used in the manufacture of hardware have sufficient process controls to ensure a repeatable process.
  • Act as Materials & Processes signatory for engineering drawings.
  • Perform development and qualification testing for metallic materials to ensure performance under engine induced and external environmental requirements.
  • Generate documentation for metallic material and process specifications to ensure adequate process control while optimizing for producibility.
  • Provide technical support and disposition of nonconformance's from the application of material and/or process control requirements implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.S. in Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years experience in Material and Process Engineering application in the aerospace industry
  • Demonstrated technical depth in a material field (metals, polymers, composites, and/or ceramics) or process field such as solid state welding or fusion welding
  • Proven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification efforts of materials or material systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhD in Materials Science/Engineering or related field
  • Familiarity with NASA-STD-6016, NASA-STD-5009, and other industry aerospace materials & processes requirements
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis of material test data.
  • Familiarity with standard methods for testing mechanical properties (including fatigue, fracture, creep, stress rupture) of metallic and/or soft materials.
  • Familiarity and interest in at least one of the following areas:

o Friction stir welding,

o Fusion welding (TIG/OTW/VPPA),

o Metal forming such as spinning & extrusions,

o Metallurgy and how it relates to processes such as casting and forging

o Metallic additive manufacturing and it's application to production hardware.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35
