Position Summary
We’re looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and prototyping of mechanical subsystems for our aerial platforms. You’ll take concepts from early CAD models all the way through flight‐test validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design conceptualization and 3D CAD design (SolidWorks or Creo) of airframes, interfaces, and mechatronic subassemblies
- Perform structural analysis and FEA (Solidworks FEA) to validate load cases and optimize designs
- Select materials and manufacturing methods (composites, sheet metal, additive) with DFM/DFT in mind
- Build and test prototypes in our machine shop; troubleshoot and iterate rapidly
- Interface with suppliers for components and tooling; manage vendor communications
- Collaborate closely with controls and avionics teams to integrate mechanical and electrical systems
- Support ground and flight test campaigns, including data collection and failure analysis
Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred)
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience—ideally in aerospace or defense environments
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks/Creo) and FEA tools (ANSYS/NASTRAN)
- Strong grasp of GD&T, material properties, and manufacturing processes
- Proven track record of taking hardware through prototype, test, and flight
- US Citizen or Green Card holder (ITAR‐controlled work)
Bonus (but not required)
- Prior work on UAVs or guided airdrop systems
- Active or eligible for Department of Defense security clearance
