Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Accident Reconstruction Engineer to join our team. This role involves analyzing vehicle crash data, conducting root cause analysis, and developing comprehensive accident reconstructions to support legal, insurance, and safety investigations. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical engineering expertise, proficiency in CAD and simulation tools, and experience with system design and standards such as ASME codes. This position offers an engaging opportunity to apply advanced engineering techniques in a dynamic environment dedicated to safety and accident analysis.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed accident investigations utilizing simulation programs such as PC-Crash and HVE to model vehicle dynamics and collision scenarios.
- Conduct vehicle and scene inspections and investigations to gather critical evidence for use in later analysis.
- Research and utilize information to provide foundationally accurate analysis based on peer reviewed research and methodologies.
- Perform root cause analysis to determine contributing factors in accidents, leveraging skills in system design, schematics, and mechanical knowledge.
- Utilize 3D laser scanning technology and forensic mapping principles in field investigations.
- Analyze and contrast involved parties and witness recounts of an incident with obtained physical and objective evidence.
- Prepare technical drawings of scenes including measurements, distances, and evidence locations.
- Assist in preparing technical reports for use in litigious matters.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting findings, methodologies, and conclusions aligned with industry standards including relevant codes & standards.
- Ability to recognize and communicate areas of improvement for yourself and within your role.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related STEM discipline.
- 1–3 years of relevant engineering or forensic experience.
- Strong foundation in dynamics and mechanics.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in automotive systems.
- Ability to conduct detailed fieldwork in outdoor conditions.
- Proficient computer skills working with various software suites, programs, and scientific instruments.
- Active driver license with ability to perform field inspections.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in a career within the expert witness and forensic fields.
- Self-starter with desire to learn new fields not related to engineering.
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), system design principles, and drafting standards.
- Excellent project scheduling skills with the ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to be on the ground, crawl, kneel, bend, or squat as needed.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel or be in the field regularly.
