Job Description

Company Description

Short Term Work - Small Project - 43C Corporation specializes in innovative solutions for forward-thinking technologies with a focus on IoT applications. Our mission is to design and deliver cutting-edge products that solve complex challenges and drive future innovations. As a company, we prioritize quality, efficiency, and sustainability in all our projects. Operating remotely, we empower a global team of professionals who share a passion for creating impactful engineering solutions.

Role Description

This contract-based, remote role is for a Mechanical Engineer specializing in IoT Enclosure Optimization and Design for Manufacturing (DFM). The individual will be responsible for advanced mechanical design, collaborating with cross-functional teams, performing design reviews, and implementing DFM practices to optimize IoT enclosures. Daily responsibilities will also include creating and modifying detailed CAD drawings, conducting research to inform designs, and ensuring that product designs align with technical and functional requirements. The position requires close coordination with project stakeholders to meet timelines and deliver project goals efficiently.

Scope of Work

  • Enclosure Finalization: Optimize an existing 3D model to house an ESP32, battery, and charging circuitry.
  • Ruggedization: Implement design features for shock resistance and weather/water resistance (targeting IP65 or higher).
  • Mechanical Interface: Design and integrate high-tactility, sturdy physical buttons that maintain environmental sealing.
  • DFM (Design for Manufacturing): Prepare the model for its intended production method (e.g., high-resolution 3D printing, CNC, or initial injection molding considerations).
  • Thermal/Power Access: Ensure proper fitment for charging ports (USB-C/Magnetic) while maintaining seal integrity.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • CAD Mastery: Proficiency in Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Rhino.
  • Small-Scale Integration: Experience packaging electronics and LiPo batteries into tight spaces.
  • Material Science: Knowledge of gaskets, O-rings, overmolding, or sealing techniques for water resistance.
  • Prototyping: Experience designing for tolerances and assembly (snap-fits, heat-set inserts, or fasteners).
  • Hardware Familiarity: (Bonus) Previous experience with ESP32-based hardware or similar IoT modules.

Contract Details

  • Duration: Initial 20-hour contract for model refinement.
  • Opportunity: High potential for follow-on work as the project moves into production and iterative testing.
  • Location: Remote / Flexible.

Other Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Mechanical Engineering principles and best practices
  • Expertise in Machine Design and optimization techniques
  • Strong skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for 3D modeling and drafting
  • Experience in Project Management tools and workflows
  • Background in Research and Development (R&D) processes
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively on remote teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Industry experience in IoT, product development, or similar fields is a plus
