Lockheed Martin is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Loads & Dynamics to join our Engineering & Architecture team within the Defense & Aerospace industry. In this role, you will contribute to the research, design, development, and integration of advanced aerospace systems that support critical national defense missions. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop and validate mechanical loads, dynamics, and structural responses for complex air and space platforms, ensuring they meet rigorous performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
As a Mechanical Engineer focused on Loads & Dynamics, you will be responsible for defining and analyzing aerodynamic, inertial, and structural loads across the vehicle lifecycle, from early conceptual design through detailed design, testing, and sustainment. You will construct and correlate analytical and finite-element models, perform static and dynamic analyses, support vibration and modal testing, and translate test results into validated design criteria. You will also collaborate with systems, structures, propulsion, and avionics engineers to integrate loads and dynamics requirements into the overall system design, balancing performance, weight, cost, and manufacturability.
You will routinely use industry-standard tools and methods—such as finite element analysis (FEA), multibody dynamics, vibration and shock analysis, and fatigue and damage tolerance assessments—to predict system behavior under a wide range of operating conditions. Responsibilities may include generating load spectra, defining load cases and duty cycles, performing normal modes and random vibration analyses, assessing aeroelastic and dynamic stability margins, and supporting hardware qualification and flight test activities. You will document your results in clear technical reports, present recommendations to design teams and program leadership, and help guide design changes based on your analysis.
This position is well-suited for engineers who enjoy solving complex physics-based problems, working with advanced technology, and contributing to systems that must perform reliably in demanding environments. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid foundation in mechanical vibrations, structural dynamics, and stress analysis are essential. Experience with aerospace structures, rotating machinery, or flight hardware is highly valued, as is familiarity with relevant aerospace and military standards. You will have the opportunity to mentor and learn from other engineers, participate in design reviews, and see your work progress from concept to hardware and, ultimately, to operational systems.
At Lockheed Martin, you will be part of a culture that emphasizes integrity, innovation, inclusivity, and teamwork. You will collaborate with colleagues across engineering disciplines and business functions who are united by a strong mission focus and commitment to technical excellence. The company offers broad career opportunities in engineering, technology, and business, enabling you to grow your skills, explore new technical domains, and pursue advancement within a leading aerospace and defense organization. This role offers a hybrid work environment when program requirements allow, with on-site work required to support hardware integration, testing, and classified activities.
