I have a concept for a small handheld consumer tool that includes a plastic body and small metal cutting blades.
I’ve already built a rough prototype, but I don’t have the engineering/CAD experience to refine the design into something that works reliably and can be prototyped properly.
I’m looking for a mechanical engineer or product designer to help me:
Turn my concept and rough prototype into a clean 3D CAD model
Refine the mechanical function (pivot points, blade alignment, clearances, etc.)
Design the parts so they can be realistically prototyped (3D printing + laser-cut or similar metal blades)
Recommend simple, off-the-shelf components where possible (springs, fasteners, etc.)
This is a functional project — performance matters more than appearance at this stage.
I am NOT looking for:
Final manufacturing or injection molding design
Complex analysis or over-engineering
The goal is a working prototype that proves the concept.
I have a limited budget, so I’m looking to work in a phased approach (start with concept → CAD, then refine if needed).
If you have experience designing small mechanical tools or products with moving parts, that’s a big plus.
