About the role

Original posting from Fruition Group

Join Our Team as a Mechanical Engineer - Power Systems!

We are an innovative defense technology company focused on the development of advanced power systems that provide sustained, distributed energy capabilities for critical military operations. Our products are built to support the next generation of defense platforms by separating power generation from consumption, enhancing survivability, mobility, and operational effectiveness in challenging environments.

Your Opportunity

We are excited to welcome a talented Mechanical Engineer to our Powertrain Engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and testing complex mechanical and electromechanical systems, which are essential for defense applications.

You will take charge of hardware from early concept through prototyping, testing, production, and field deployment. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, your goal will be to deliver robust and manufacturable systems that are ready for mission use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical and electromechanical hardware design from concept through to field deployment.
  • Design integrated systems including energy storage, power electronics, thermal systems, and high-density packaging solutions.
  • Create 3D CAD models and production-ready 2D drawings, ensuring compliance with GD&T and industry standards.
  • Conduct structural, thermal, and mechanical analysis using first principles and advanced CAE/FEA tools.
  • Rapidly prototype, test, debug, and iterate designs to meet tight development timelines.
  • Design for high-volume and defense-grade manufacturing, including machining, sheet metal, casting, and composites.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure quality and reliability of designs.
  • Support system integration, test campaigns, and perform root cause analysis of any hardware failures.
  • Engage with customers during demonstrations and field evaluations to gather mission requirements effectively.
  • Use test and field data to inform and improve design decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical system design.
  • Proven capability in managing end-to-end hardware development projects.
  • Strong skills in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent) and production drawing creation with GD&T.
  • Experience with CAE/FEA tools and solid engineering foundations in structures, thermal systems, mechanics, and materials.
  • Hands-on prototyping and fabrication experience, including machining and rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal, casting, and composites.
  • Experience with military standards such as MIL-STD or DO-160.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in high-voltage or high-power electromechanical systems.
  • Experience in energy storage systems, battery thermal management, or power electronics.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with simulation and CAE tools like ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL.
  • Experience using instrumentation and data acquisition tools (e.g., LabVIEW, DAQ systems, Python).
  • Experience with PLM and engineering collaboration tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
  • Ability to integrate sensors and perform data analysis for engineering validation.
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, robotics, or similar high-reliability engineering environments.

Eligibility: Only US Citizens or Green Card holders are eligible to apply.
