Mechanical Engineering Intern

Arthur Robotics
London, GB
On-site

Job Description

Arthur Robotics is solving dexterity for general-purpose robotics, creating next-generation automation solutions inspired by the human hand. We're a small start-up pushing the bounds of hardware and software research from our lab in Somerset House, London.

We’re building a product to automate any industrial process - from fastening nuts and bolts, to routing flexible wire harnesses, to packaging delicate pieces of fruit. Since being founded in January 2025, we've already demonstrated breakthrough dexterous manipulation capabilities, and we're now developing the infrastructure needed to bring our platform to market. You can read more about our work here - https://aria.org.uk/insights/robot-hands-with-human-capabilities/.

We're looking for mechanical/design engineering interns to join our team for a 10-12 week, paid, in-person placement this summer. We’re open to candidates at different stages (undergraduate through MSc) with a strong portfolio of hands-on projects involving CAD and rapid prototyping.

Your’ll work on:

  • Design: Sculpting the form of our robotic hands. Rapidly iterating on CAD models, experimenting with materials and coatings, and delivering a series of 3D-printed shells.
  • Engineering: Developing ultra-compact actuation mechanisms for robotic fingers - BLDCs, geartrains, tendon-driven mechanisms.
  • Testing: Cycle and durability testing. Building fixtures to stress-test our hands across real-world production tasks.

You’ll have end-to-end ownership over the components you build, with direct access to cutting-edge lab equipment and rapid prototyping tools.

We're funded by the UK's Advanced Research and Invention Agency.
