Description for R&D Project Manager:

R&D Project Manager responsibilities include the coordination and completion of projects on time within budget and within scope; Oversees all aspects of projects throughout the entire design control process; Sets deadlines, monitors, and summarizes progress; Prepares reports for upper management regarding project status. The R&D Project Manager will work directly with the R&D team to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget. The project manager will coordinate with other departments to ensure all aspects of each project are compatible and implemented appropriately.

Responsibilities for R&D Project Manager:

  • Develop and manage the execution of project plans. Typical projects include new product development from product concept to commercialization, product and process improvement, and software systems.
  • For many smaller projects, the R&D Project Manager will be the sole team member, so a successful candidate must be willing and able to personally complete activities, and work independently without significant supervision.
  • Create, monitor, and present project metrics, including adherence to deadlines and project budget.
  • Justify and document product changes in compliance with company Document Control procedures.
  • Obtain detailed product knowledge, and serve as the liaison between R&D and Operations.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/suppliers for the flawless execution of projects.
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Develop detailed project plans to monitor and track progress.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs.
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Report and escalate project risks or issues to management as needed.
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors.
  • Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals.
  • Attend conferences and training as required to maintain proficiency.
  • Develop spreadsheets, diagrams, and process maps to document needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements for R&D Project Manager:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, quantitative or business-related field required
  • Demonstrated understanding of medical device quality management systems, specifically design controls and associated business processes (purchasing, inventory control, order fulfillment, etc.)
  • Must possess a customer service focus (internal & external customers)
  • Skilled at conflict management and resolution, and must have excellent interpersonal skills
  • High level of proficiency with project management tools including Gantt charts, spreadsheets, presentation, and collaboration software.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to create as well as deliver effective presentations
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires critical thinking and strong analytical skills
  • Exhibits enthusiasm, positive professional attitude, integrity, reliability, and leadership
  • Advanced skill in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Focus and interest in identifying, learning, and implementing new tools and technologies
