Job Summary

Design, implement and manage large-scale voice and data communications systems and networks for Amtrak Engineering and other departments. This job is responsible for the workforce that installs and maintains all communications and radio infrastructure.

Essential Functions

• Provide operational support for engineering communications, security and radio systems and serve as a lead engineer for new communication and data systems installations.
• Verify all work on related systems fully match the corporate standards and system requirements.
• Review and maintain operational service level agreements, maintenance support issues, warranties, and support contracts for engineering communication, radio and data systems.
• Assist in project management during the installation of new communication, radio, security and data systems.
• Provide direct supervision of force account during the installation and periodic maintenance of engineering communication, security and radio systems.
• Interface with Amtrak departments, customers and contractor/vendor team members.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree requires or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

3-6 years of relevant experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with seven years relevant experience or eleven years equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Minimum five (5) years’ experience design, installation and maintenance of telecommunications, security and radio infrastructure.
• Minimum five (5) years’ experience in technical supervision of maintenance and project delivery personnel.
• Master’s degree in electrical engineering with nine years relevant experience or thirteen years equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of various IP networking technologies.\
• Demonstrated experience in managing complex programs in an operating environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience working with diverse voice and data communications technologies and protocols, both wired (copper/fiber) and wireless (radio).
• Experience with inside plant and outside plant copper and fiber cable installation
• Must have demonstrated experience in communications, radio and security system support.
• Experience managing and supervising technical maintenance personnel.
• Must be able to interface with all levels of employees and both external and internal customers.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to relate complex technical issues to both technical and no-technical staff.
• Must be proficient at using Microsoft Visio and Office products to document all projects and systems.

The salary/hourly range is $124,600.00 – $161,352.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
