Mobile SDET / Automation Engineer

Department: Engineering

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Remote - USA

Compensation: $80,000 - $110,000 / year

Description

Location: Remote / Hybrid if in NYC area

Working primarily in US time zones and collaborating with Vietnam-based engineering teams.

Our engineering organization consists of ~30 engineers, with 11 based in Vietnam (Backend, Frontend, QA) and 19 based in the US (Backend, Frontend). We are looking for a Mobile SDET to own and scale our mobile automation efforts across iOS and Android, helping us build a robust, reliable automated testing foundation for our mobile platform.

As a Mobile SDET / Automation Engineer, mobile automation is your primary focus. You will design, build, and maintain our mobile automation framework using Appium and Java, run test suites across real device farms and local environments, and integrate automation into our CI/CD pipeline. You have a strong engineering background, deep hands-on experience with mobile test infrastructure, and the mindset of someone who wants to build automation that actually gets used and trusted by the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the mobile automation framework end-to-end, with Appium and Java as the core stack.
  • Design and implement automated test suites for iOS and Android covering critical user flows, regression scenarios, and new feature coverage.
  • Execute and manage automated test runs on real device farms (e.g., BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, AWS Device Farm) as well as local device setups.
  • Integrate mobile automation into the CI/CD pipeline to enable automated execution on builds and releases.
  • Maintain and improve framework reliability, including handling flakiness, device-specific issues, and OS version compatibility.
  • Collaborate with the manual mobile QA engineer to identify automation candidates and expand coverage strategically.
  • Work closely with iOS and Android engineers to stay ahead of upcoming changes and ensure test coverage keeps pace with development.
  • Partner with Vietnam-based QA and engineering teams to maintain consistency across the automation strategy.
  • Analyze and report on automation results, triaging failures and communicating clearly with engineering teams.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Mobile Automation Expertise (50%)
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Appium for mobile test automation on both iOS and Android.
  • Proficiency in Java as the primary automation language.
  • Proven experience running automated mobile tests on real device farms (e.g., BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, AWS Device Farm, or similar).
  • Experience setting up and managing local device testing environments.
  • Solid understanding of mobile-specific automation challenges: device fragmentation, OS version differences, flakiness, and app lifecycle management.
  • Experience integrating mobile automation into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, or similar).
  • Ability to design maintainable, scalable test frameworks using best practices such as Page Object Model or similar patterns
  • Domain Knowledge – Betting / Gambling (30%)
  • Direct QA or automation experience in the betting, gambling, sportsbook, or betting exchange domain is required.
  • Strong understanding of betting concepts such as markets, odds, events, and settlements.
  • Experience validating user wallet, balance, and financial transaction flows through automation.
  • Familiarity with risk-sensitive and revenue-impacting user flows that demand high test confidence.
  • Exposure to compliance-driven or regulated environments is a plus, especially US-facing products.
  • AI Awareness & Adoption (20%)
  • Practical experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) to accelerate test design, code generation, or failure analysis.
  • Interest in or experience with AI-powered mobile testing tools, such as self-healing test frameworks or smart selector strategies.
  • Genuine drive to use AI to improve automation efficiency, coverage quality, and debugging speed.
  • Experience with Playwright or other web automation frameworks — useful as our web automation stack also runs on Playwright.
  • Familiarity with TypeScript or Python in a QA or automation context.
  • Experience working with distributed engineering teams across time zones.
  • Background in fintech or real-money transaction testing.
