Molding Process Engineer
Position Type: Direct Hire
Position Location: Libertyville, IL
Position Salary: $120,000 - $165,000 (Depending on Experience)
Responsibilities:
- This position is responsible for providing support to all injection molding operations, reducing scrap and set-up times, optimizing cycle times, and performing validations related to materials, presses, and molds as necessary, with a sharp focus on continuous improvement.
- Establish a robust process window for all injection molded components using Scientific Molding techniques along with Design for Experiments (DOE’s)Understand manufacturing and test equipment concepts, technologies and techniques
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and utilization, and equipment layout
- Coordinates maintenance and drive technical activities for cGMP compliant manufacturing improvement
- Conduct process validation and optimization activities, including DOE (Design of Experiments) studies, process capability analysis, and root cause analysis, to identify opportunities for improvement and enhance process robustness.
- Create and manage process documentation such as work instructions and set-up instructions
- Develop new manufacturing equipment and processes; write equipment specifications.
- Define equipment maintenance requirements, identify root-causes of equipment failures and develop hands-on maintenance skills.
- Prepares technical writing including new Procedures, URS, Risk Assessments, Safety Assessments, and Functionality Tests
- Work with other engineering stakeholders and customers on problem solving and continuous improvement to the design of equipment and products and may develop corrective and preventive action plans
- May be involved in development and update of PFMEA for new products and in control plan development
- Write and update work instructions and other documents (e.g. specifications, procedures)
- Examines and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Confers with production group concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Coordinates with customers to identify product specifications and design changes and responds to customer request.
- Provides information for management recommendations from a technical and technical cost perspective.
- Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in injection molding is required.
- Troubleshoot molding / manufacturing processes to mitigate production defects
- Must have excellent knowledge of injection molding presses (hydraulic and electric), molds, mold design and other related processing equipment such as hoppers/loaders, blenders, dryers, sprue pickers, hot runner systems etc.
- Must have experience designing manufacturing processes within schedule and budgetary parameters.
- Must have experience developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods.
- Must have experience working with common molding grade plastics such as Polypropylene, Polycarbonate, ABS, Nylon etc.
- RJG Master Molder Certification or equivalent preferred
- Prior EOAT (End of Arm Tooling), six axis robot and programming experience preferred
