We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

The Platforms, Technologies, and NPI group at Solar Turbines leads the development of innovative products that are critical to our customers’ success across a wide range of industries. We are seeking a motivated and creative NPI Controls Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role supports the design and development of electrical systems and controls logic for turbomachinery packages and contributes to new product introduction activities within a collaborative, agile development environment.

As an NPI Controls Design Engineer, you will help translate gas turbine functionality into reliable and efficient automated control systems. This position provides hands-on experience in controls design, system integration, and cross‑functional collaboration while continuing to build technical depth and product knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with internal specifications, applicable standards, and customer requirements. Implementation, testing, and troubleshooting of control logic and HMI displays.

Collaboration: Work with the Product Owner, Scrum Master, and team members to translate design requirements into actionable development tasks. Collaborate with mechanical, hydromechanical, and electrical engineers to support integrated system designs. Partner with Field Service, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders to address technical issues and support product execution.

New Product Introduction (NPI): Support NPI activities from concept through production, including prototyping, testing, and validation. Execute design changes and incorporating lessons learned from testing and field feedback.

Technical Support: Provide engineering support during package assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning as needed. Resolve controls-related issues during development and early field deployment.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve product performance, reliability, cost, or serviceability. Support implementation of design improvements under guidance from senior engineers.

Documentation: Create and maintain engineering documentation such as schematics, logic descriptions, design specifications, and test reports.

Safety Driven: Follow established processes to support risk identification and mitigation. Ensure assigned work complies with safety standards, quality requirements, and company policies.

Mentorship: Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers and contribute subject matter expertise within the team.

Agile: Willingness to take on new challenges and acquire cross-functional skills to enhance team capabilities.
